Compact Disk – Read Only Memory

Management companies don’t need a CD-ROM (or CD Reader) in every workstation any longer.  CD’s are only used to load programs, play music, or boot up in an emergency. Use a stereo to play your music.  Workstations can use any CD on the network (if it is marked as “shared”) to load programs.  Motherboards can now boot up from a USB device.  A USB CD-ROM or USB hard drive can be the emergency boot device for many workstations.  See also DVD players.

If you are wondering what to do with those old AOL CD’s that arrive unsolicited in your mailbox, then look at www.NoMoreAOLcds.com .
