Motherboards
Main Boards (main computer
circuit board)
Motherboards are the main circuit board that all
of the other computer parts plug into.
Motherboards should have the following
features:
CPU.
Ensure the motherboard is capable of carrying the CPU you intend to install.
DVI. The DVI video interface is the new
standard for connecting monitors, so get a motherboard
with a DVI connector.
LAN ADAPTER with gigabyte speed. See LAN comments.
USB 2.0 ports.
Most peripherals now connect to a computer via USB ports, so make sure your
motherboard has lots of USB ports. If
the “2.0” is not stated then it is the original slower USB 1.0 specification.
RAM.
Ensure your computer can hold the amount of RAM you wish to install.
SATA.
Ensure your motherboard has SATA (serial ATA) hard drive
connections. They are faster and
eliminate the old wide ATA connectors which trash up the interior of a computer
and impede air flow.
RECOMMENDATION:
We are currently recommending the Intel 865 series of motherboards … it
contains all the features listed above except it does not have a DVI monitor
connector.
