SAVING YOUR WORK

RAM vs DISK

When you are working on an application such as MS WORD, EXCEL, or MONDO CONDO, all of your work is temporarily stored in RAM (Random Access Memory).   RAM is/are the memory chip(s) on the main board of your computer (the “motherboard”).   When your work is completed the data is transferred to the hard drives.   Each type of memory has its advantages and disadvantages.  The RAM is very fast (nano-second speed) but it is volatile and forgets its data when the power is shut off from the computer.  The hard drive memory is persistent and remembers its data (magnetically) even when power to the computer is shut off.  Hard drives are also very inexpensive and compact even for massive (hundreds of giga-bytes) amounts of data.

The problem is that your work is at risk when it is stored in RAM.  Most programs do not write the data to the hard drive unless you specifically ask the program to SAVE   –or–   when you EXIT the program.

The solution is to save your data often by going to File > Save option in most programs.

MONDO CONDO saves Job Logs when you exit a Job.   MONDO CONDO saves accounting data to the ledgers after the journal prints.
